    We have hundreds of phone numbers, fax numbers and addresses for our company, each related to a different part of our business. We want to make sure your question ends up in the right place! Here are three ways to get answers:

    1. Log Into My Health Toolkit® 
    You can find most health and dental claims information online! Just log into our secure feature, My Health Toolkit (if it's your first time, you'll have to create a simple profile first). You'll find claims details, copies of your Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and benefit booklets, plus other helpful information about your benefits and coverage, including an address for your specific customer service area.

    My Health Toolkit also has an "Ask Customer Service" feature that lets you send your message directly to the customer service representative who can best help you. My Health Toolkit is safe and secure, so your information and privacy are protected.

    2. Check Your ID Card for Specific Contact Information
    On the back of your BlueCross ID card, you'll find phone numbers and addresses for your particular plan. This is your specific customer service contact information and a quick way to get your answers.

    3. Use Default Contact Information
    If you can't log into My Health Toolkit and you've misplaced your ID card, you can still reach us. Here are some main switchboard numbers:

    The switchboard will route your call to the proper customer service area. Please keep in mind, individual customer service areas have different hours of operation.

  • A member with a question about prescription drug benefits?

    For Members with BlueCross Drug Coverage

    On behalf of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, Caremark assists in the administration of our prescription drug program. Caremark is an independent company that provides pharmacy benefits management. Here’s how and when to call Caremark:

    Mail Service Benefits, Caremark FastStart Enrollment: 866-465-2496
    A representative will complete a mail service order form for you and contact your doctor for your prescription. You'll need your member ID number, the name of your drug, your doctor's name and phone number, your shipping address, and a credit card number and its expiration date. You can also give your doctor's office the toll-free FastStart physician number, 800-378-5697, and let your doctor call in your prescription for you. For faster processing, give your doctor your member ID number, your mailing address and your phone number. Once your doctor calls in your prescription, Caremark will contact you to get your payment information.

    Call this number if you have questions about prior authorization, quantity management, dose management, step therapy, mail-order benefits, refills or your general benefits. Or, visit Caremark's website.     Caremark Prior Authorization Department: 800-294-5979
    Ask your doctor to call this number if you need prior authorization for a prescription drug. Your doctor can also fax requests on your behalf to 888-836-0730.

    CuraScript Specialty Drug Enrollment: 877-512-5981
    On behalf of BlueCross, CuraScript assists in the administration of the specialty pharmacy program. CuraScript is an independent company. Call this number if you use a specialty drug. Or, ask your doctor to call in your prescription for you at 877-283-2829. For faster processing, give your doctor your member ID number, your mailing address and your phone number. Once your doctor calls in your prescription, CuraScript will contact you to get your payment information. Your doctor can fax specialty drug prior authorization requests to 866-576-3869.

    For Members with Other Drug Coverage


    State Health Plan Members
    The State Health Plan provides prescription drug coverage through Medco. On behalf of the State Health Plan, Medco assists in the administration of the prescription drug program. Medco is an independent company that provides pharmacy benefits management. For more information, contact your benefits coordinator or Payroll department at your place of employment.

    All Other Members
    If your plan provides prescription drug coverage through another plan or vendor, check the back of your prescription drug ID card for contact information. Or, contact your benefits coordinator or Payroll department at your place of employment.

  • A Federal Employee Program (FEP) member with a question or concern about your coverage or benefits?
    The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Service Benefit Plan, usually called the Federal Employee Program or FEP, is the largest private health insurance contract in the nation. This program offers a variety of health plans for eligible federal employees and retirees. It continues to be the most popular choice of federal employees and retirees.

    BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina administers the plan in our state. Our FEP division consistently ranks first in the nation for customer service!

    Authorization Form
    Under federal privacy laws, we now require new authorization. When you contact us about a claim or would like other health information involving your spouse or dependent (including children age 12 or older) we must have a written authorization on file. The person whose information you are requesting needs to sign this authorization. This authorization is valid for 24 months. And you can renew it when it expires. Learn more.

  • Someone looking for subpoena or HIPAA-compliant information?
    BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina will respond to any valid subpoena that a South Carolina court issues. If you are requesting records from us as a third party to an out-of-state action, however, you will need to complete a HIPAA-Compliant Authorization form. Or, you can contact:

    Please note: We do not have copies of original bills (HCFAs) that providers submit if the individual resides and/or receives treatment in states other than South Carolina. In these cases, we will provide electronic data processing summaries of this information.

    Documents

    Documents we keep in the normal course of business include:

    Claims (copies of HCFAs or electronic data processing summaries): These documents generally provide line item information, diagnosis codes and provider information.

    Explanation of Benefits (EOBs): These documents generally provide information about the benefits we paid for a claim.

    We usually do not have copies of medical records. You should request these directly from the provider.

    Fees

    We will prepare an invoice for copies at $.50/page. Generally, each claim is one to four pages. EOBs are usually two pages.

    We can not determine in advance the number of pages of documentation necessary.

    We expect prompt payment of our invoice upon receipt.
