A new South Carolina BLUE Retail Center was officially welcomed to Irmo with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, February 28, 2025, hosted by the BLUE Retail Center and the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce.

The event welcomed BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina executives, members of the South Carolina General Assembly, local elected officials, chamber representatives and business leaders, reflecting strong support for the new retail center.

Speaking to the importance of this initiative, South Carolina Representative Jay Kilmartin emphasized the value of in-person health care resources. “Health care is personal and local. I commend BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina for investing in resources like the South Carolina BLUE Retail Center, where individuals can walk into a brick-and-mortar facility, speak directly with knowledgeable staff and explore the best health care options for themselves and their families.”

With locations across the state, including Greenville, Mount Pleasant and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina BLUE retail centers provide free, in-person guidance on health insurance tailored to individual needs.

Kerry Powers, president and CEO of the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the positive impact of the new location. “The Irmo Chamber was very excited when we learned that the Midlands BLUE Retail Center would be opening right here in Irmo. Increasing access to health care starts with creating meaningful, face-to-face connections in our communities. We value these services that the BLUE Retail Center offers to individuals and families in our area.”

Columbia Chamber President and CEO Carl Blackstone said, “We are happy to celebrate the opening of the new South Carolina BLUE Retail Center in Irmo. This location will serve as a resource for the entire Midlands region. The services offered at the Irmo location will promote informed health care decisions and economic growth in Lexington County, Richland County and across the Midlands region.” The new Midlands location at 7467 St. Andrews Road, Irmo, SC, offers a full range of health plans from BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and BlueChoice HealthPlan for individuals, families, including short-term health plans and Medicare options for those 65 and older.
