BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina is committed to supporting nonprofit organizations that promote individual and public health, improve quality of life, and strengthen communities across our state.
Who We Support
We consider funding requests from organizations that:
- Are located in South Carolina.
- Are classified as a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), 501(c)(6) or tax-exempt educational or governmental entity.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and mission alignment.
- Maintain overhead expenses below 25 percent of their operating budget.
Corporate philanthropy does not fund:
- For-profit entities.
- Scholarships, fellowships or individual grants.
- Political or religious causes (unless they are community-serving and separately designated).
- Travel, contests or events without a charitable beneficiary.
How To Apply
We have a new application portal. To apply:
- Register and log in to the portal to create your user account.
- Submit your application 2–3 months before your need funding.
- Expect a response within 6–8 weeks.
We accept applications Feb. 1 – Nov. 30 on a rolling basis. If requesting support for multiple programs or events, please combine them into one application.

- We accept only electronic submissions.
- If approved, funds are typically disbursed within four weeks.
- Declined applicants may reapply the following year.

In place of an audited statement, you may submit your organization's most recent annual tax filing, profit and loss statement, or annual budget.
No. We retain electronic copies of all the documents uploaded to our application system and can refer to the original.
Once we approve the request, it typically takes about two weeks for funds to be disbursed.
We receive many more requests from organizations than we can support. If your application is declined, you are welcome to reapply the following year.
Typically, corporate gifts support South Carolina-based nonprofit organizations through event sponsorships, support for special projects and programs, or support for general operations. The Corporate Giving department has many focus areas, including health, human services, arts, education, economic development and more. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
The Foundation issues grants to support projects that promote the health of South Carolinians, particularly the economically vulnerable. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited applications. Any eligible organization interested in applying for a grant needs to submit a letter of intent first. To learn more, visit the Foundation’s website.
We recommend you review the corporate giving guidelines and the Foundation grant guidelines to determine which would best fit your request. Most requests are only eligible to receive a gift from one entity.
