Electronic Data Interchange Resources

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a secure, standardized method for exchanging healthcare and administrative information electronically between providers, clearinghouses, and health plans. Using EDI helps streamline business processes, improve accuracy, and reduce administrative burden by replacing manual, paper based transactions.

EDI supports a variety of transactions commonly used by healthcare providers, including claims submission, eligibility and benefits inquiries, claim status checks, remittance advice, and other administrative exchanges. By submitting transactions electronically, providers benefit from faster processing, built in system edits, and earlier identification of potential errors.

Benefits of Using EDI

Using EDI offers several advantages for your practice:

  • Faster processing and reimbursement compared to paper submissions
  • Improved accuracy through automated validation and system edits
  • Reduced administrative workload and paper handling
  • Secure transmission of data in compliance with HIPAA standards
  • Consistent communication using nationally recognized transaction formats

EDI transactions can be submitted directly to us or through an approved clearinghouse, depending on your practice’s preferences and workflow.

Common EDI Transactions

EDI supports multiple transaction types, including but not limited to:

  • Eligibility and Benefits (270/271): Verify a member’s coverage and benefits prior to services being rendered
  • Claims Submission (837): Submit professional, institutional, and dental claims electronically
  • Claim Status Inquiry (276/277): Check the status of submitted claims
  • Electronic Remittance Advice (835): Receive detailed payment and adjustment information electronically

These transactions help providers manage patient accounts more efficiently and reduce delays caused by incomplete or inaccurate information.

Getting Started with EDI

Providers may submit EDI transactions directly or work with a clearinghouse to manage electronic submissions. Payer IDs and transaction specific requirements must be used to ensure successful transmission and processing.

Before submitting transactions, providers should verify that enrollment requirements are complete and that their practice management or billing system is configured to meet EDI standards.

Support and Assistance

Our EDI team is available to assist with enrollment, connectivity questions, transaction setup, and troubleshooting. If you experience issues with electronic submissions or need help determining the appropriate transaction type or payer ID, support is available to help ensure a smooth and efficient experience.

Using EDI helps your practice operate more efficiently, supports timely payments, and ensures accurate communication—allowing you to focus more on patient care and less on administrative tasks.
