We are committed to ensuring your patients receive high quality laboratory testing at the most reasonable cost. This is achieved by actively managing our laboratory provider network and encouraging use of laboratories accredited for participation in the health plan.
When specialized testing is required, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina includes specialty laboratories and designated centers of excellence within the network. These centers are staffed by qualified clinical pathologists and genetic counselors who are available to support you both before and after testing.
Please note that Avalon does not manage laboratory services provided in emergency room or inpatient hospital settings. This does not change member benefits; however, use of participating laboratory providers helps reduce out of pocket costs for your patients, our members.
As laboratory technology becomes increasingly complex and costly, it is essential that services meet coverage criteria under a member’s benefit plan prior to being performed.
